Is it only me having a feeling that some applications take us for fools? Or do we really believe “everything” written on the internet?
Even the sentence “I’ve read this or that on the internet” is misleading. The internet is formed by a network of servers connected by some technology, that enables us to search for information someone has written, about the topic we are interested in, in the usual time of the day according to the timezone we live … then “people” are complaining about the social networks and technology not realising that we humans have the choice to read – and believe – whatever we deem trustworthy, everyone according to his/her upbringing and experiences up to the day they can “read and understand” what someone else has written.
Just real communication is missing if we only rely on the online services. Written communication without the tone of the voice and body language is incomplete.
Another problem I see is that we don’t listen to each other. I don’t mean in the sense of “obey”, but just listen what others have to say before interrupting with own advise. In the global world chances are that we speak different mother languages and we don’t possess same vocabulary. You can use automatic translation for written material, but it is kind of hard to use it when we speak.
My English will never be perfect, even after I lived in England for 15 years. I don’t know the grammar and I’m not ashamed anymore. It just takes a bit of patience and understanding from the “natives” to allow the learners a bit more time to express themselves. Otherwise we all are on the way to Madland.
